Howzat for healthy!

Jaga Pradhan currently studies in the fifth standard at the Vijayanagar Project Primary School in Puri. An energetic, vibrant young boy, Jaga enjoys coming to school to study Science and Literature above all his other subjects. His older brother works as a daily wage earner, while his mother is a construction worker. Both Jaga and his younger brother attend the same school and are beneficiaries of The Akshaya Patra mid-day meal.

Because they live close to school the boys have no trouble attending classes regularly, and of course the tasty mid-day meal keeps them returning daily. Jaga loves eating the nutritious Akshaya Patra food every day. He tells us that previously because of financial constraints he used to go without food. However, ever since he became a beneficiary of the programme he gets a good healthy diet and even takes leftovers home sometimes.

Jaga’s true passion lies in sports. A huge fan of cricket and Mahendra Singh Dhoni in particular, he describes the cricket superstar as a ‘master blaster.’ Jaga has a great time playing cricket with his friends and enjoys batting more than bowling. Like a true fan Jaga enjoys catching the cricket matches on television, and recalls watching the T20 World Cup Semi-Final match last.

This young boy is filled with enthusiasm and vitality for life that has been maintained because of the nutritious Akshaya Patra mid-day meal. By consuming this healthy meal on a daily basis, Jaga now has access to the nutrition he needs to study, play and grow well into a healthy young man.
